I started school a few weeks ago, so my reading has been moving toward text books. Oh well, I still have bus rides. I will get at least a little fun reading done!!!
- Artemisia by Lapierre, Alexandra- This was a very interesting book. Artemisia Gentileschi was an Italian painter born in 1593 and died in 1656. This is a fictionalized version of her life. This book did a wonderful job of creating the atmosphere that existed then. It also did a great job at showing how complicated the life of a female artist was back then. Not that it is a walk in the park now, but the only reason Artemisia was able to work in one of the royal courts was because her husband also worked there.
- Night of the Radishes by Benitez, Sandra– This book was underwhelming. The plot is really interesting. It is about a woman whose twin sister died when she was in middle school and then her father committed suicide when she was in high school and at the beginning of the book her mother dies of cancer. Her mother’s last wish is that the daughter (main character) finds her estrange brother. But I just never really connected to it. The writing just was not very engaging to me.
